Sep 07, 2017 Note: I installed the Thunderbolt drivers in Windows 10 before attempting the Sierra install. However, other than various DSDT patches I had to make to get my iGPU and dGPU working simultaneously for dual monitor support, I didn't have to do anything else in OS X to get the onboard Thunderbolt working.
I see. You are booting from an external SSD, connected via Thunderbolt, and the update has broken your Thunderbolt.
I suspect that the installer for the Thunderbolt firmware update was never tested in this scenario, and it is not supported. Install an OS on the internal disk, boot from that, install the Thunderbolt firmware update, then re-connect your Thunderbolt external disk and choose to boot from it.
